I'm a new student on FTS

First steps in CTU FTS information systems

email

Welcome to the Faculty of Transportation Sciences at CTU in Prague. Below, we will introduce you to the basics of working with CTU and CTU FD information systems. Further information for new students can be found on the faculty's website.

CTU Identity and Password

After enrolling in your studies, your CTU Identity (username) was created, which you will use to log in to (almost) all university information systems. If you have not studied at any CTU faculty before, you need to generate your Initial Password according to the instructions.

Student ID Card

You can obtain your new CTU student ID card at the Card Issuance Office in Dejvice. You will need this card for accessing FTS buildings, paying for meals in the cafeteria, identification in the library, etc. Details can be found here.

If you plan to visit the CTU Card Issuance Office in Prague in September, we recommend making a reservation for a specific time in advance. This will save you from long waiting times.

Internet Connection – Eduroam

As a CTU student, you can fully benefit from the Eduroam service, which provides wireless internet access to students and academic staff worldwide. The Eduroam password is different from your CTU Password, and you can set it in the Usermap application. Never set your Eduroam Password to be the same as your CTU Password!

More information on how to connect can be found on our website eduroam.fd.cvut.cz.

Email Account

Every student can create a university email account in the Usermap system, which can be accessed through Office 365. Creating an account is not mandatory, but it is necessary for licensing certain software (e.g., Matlab).

Details about the email account and instructions on how to create it can be found in the relevant section of the Handbook.

Schedule

Since the Faculty of Transportation Sciences is a small faculty, the teaching is specific to a predefined schedule. Students are divided into groups of about 20 people, who share a common schedule. The group assignments are published on the faculty's website before the start of the semester.

You can view your schedule in the KOS system. To view the live schedule of specific rooms, departments, and groups, use the Rooms application. Schedules are also published in the Scientia application here.

Studies

For study matters, the most important system for you will be KOS, which is used for recording your study results, viewing your schedule, registering for credits/exams, enrolling in courses, etc. The registration for the first semester has already been completed by the study department. When you start your studies, you are required to enter your bank account number into KOS, where any scholarships will be sent.

Physical education is mandatory during the first two semesters at FD, organized by the Institute of Physical Education and Sport CTU. You can choose a specific time for physical education according to the offer on the institute's website. Monday afternoon from 13:15 to 20:00 is reserved for physical education in the schedule, ensuring that it does not overlap with other subjects. We recommend not delaying your choice, as popular sports fill up quickly.

Software

Thanks to agreements with software companies, CTU students have access to licenses for some useful programs. The most important is access to Microsoft 365. More information is available in the Software section.

Data Storage and Sharing

As part of the Office 365 package, each student has access to 1 TB of storage in the OneDrive service, where you can securely store and share your data. Another option is offered by the CESNET organization, where you can use the ownCloud service to store up to 100 GB of data.

Confirmation of IS Usage Rules and FD Building Regulations

After starting your studies at FD, you must familiarize yourself with and confirm the rules for using information systems and the building regulations of the Faculty of Transportation Sciences. These rules must be confirmed by the beginning of October; otherwise, your CTU Password will be blocked. You can confirm the rules after logging in here.

IT Course

On the first day of the semester, the Department of Applied Informatics in Transport organizes an IT Systems Course for first-year students. We strongly recommend attending this course, as it introduces the basics of working with the information systems you will need throughout your studies. Information about the course can be found on faculty's website before the start of each academic year.

You can find the course presentation from 23rd September 2024 here.

Further Information

We recommend browsing the Handbook section on this website for more information on using CTU information systems. We also suggest exploring the CTU CIC website.
